A comparison of our cotton, linen and hemp substrates:

Cotton

Cotton fabric for beeswax wraps

Cotton is the classic fabric for beeswax wraps. Its white color makes it ideal for custom printing. Our yarn currently comes from Greece and Turkey, and the weaving takes place in Istanbul, Turkey. This keeps transport routes for the cotton as short as possible. The fully woven fabric and printing inks are certified to one of the highest textile standards, comparable to Fairtrade. The certification covers environmental impact and minimal pesticide use, as well as social standards such as minimum wages and no child labor. Contact us to learn more.

Linen

Linen for beeswax wraps

Flax is a very durable plant that can also be grown in Germany and naturally requires no pesticides. Our linen currently comes from Latvia, which still means shorter transport routes than for cotton. Linen is also somewhat coarser and thicker, giving the wrap a higher-quality feel. A linen beeswax wrap works just like a cotton one. The Allgäu region was once known as the “Blue Allgäu” because so much flax was grown there and the fields turned blue when it flowered. The former flax-processing factory still stands here in Immenstadt and is now a listed building.

Hemp

Hemp is very similar to linen: it is also very durable and does not require pesticides. Our hemp comes from Austria.
